Fred Lehnherr
Dies
After Brief Illness
Frederick Lehnherr was the fourth
child of Jacob and Susan Lehnherr and was born at Wemmes,
Canton Berne, Switzerland, October 21, 1867. He came
to this country with his parents at the age of 17, going
first to Monroe, Wisconsin; later moving to Chester,
Minnesota, and finally settling near Berne. With the
exception of seven years spent in northern Minnesota,
he lived the rest of his life in this community.
In 1893 he was married to Mary Egger who died within
the year.
On September 1, 1898, he married Margaret Denny, who
passed on twenty-two years ago.
Mr. Lehnherr became ill October 7 and was taken to St.
John's hospital at Red Wing. Here everything possible
was done to restore his health but to no avail. He passed
quietly to his reward Friday evening, October 22 at
the age of 76 years and one day.
The deceased leaves to mourn his passing four children,
Grace Morlock of Savage, Minn., Ruth Buehler at West
Concord, Hilda Ashler of Pine Island and John of Minneapolis.
There are 12 grand children and one great grandchild,
one brother, Gottlieb, of Sebatha, Kansas, and a host
of friends.
He was baptised in infancy and later confirmed in the
Swingli Reformed church of Switzerland. He has remained
a faithful follower of this church all his life.
For many years he has been a faithful worker in the
Odd Fellows lodge and a member of the Happy Home Rebekah
Lodge.
Funeral services were conducted October 24 from Mahler's
Funeral chapel at 12:45 and the Berne church at 1:30.
Interment was in the Berne cemetary.
Funeral services were attended by an honorary guard
of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs who officiated at the grave.
Pallbearers were all brother Odd Fellows: Fred Closner,
Walter Schutz, Earl West, Earl Hurd, Peter Stucky, and
Leon Cornwell.
In Memoriam
They call it death when the Angel
comes
To open the Door of Life.
The door that opens and shuts us in
From the world's toil and strife.
Thank God for the door, by whatever name,
That waits at the end of the road.
For it opens wide to let us in
To the Paradise of God.
